Leo James "Lee" Rose
Leo (Lee) J. Rose, 97, died at 4:15pm on Friday March 20, 2015 at Brookdale assited living, Greenwood village, Colorado.
A Funeral Mass will be held on April 11, 2015 at 10:30am at St. Patrick Church, Dwight, Illinois with the Father David Sable officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dwight.
Leo was born June 20, 1917 in Dwight, Illinois, the son of James and Sophie Rose. They preceded him in death. He attended Dwight Schools and graduated from Dwight High School in 1937.
He married Jeanette Sophie Bandur on November 9, 1940 in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 2003.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers Thomas, Walter, Harold, Joseph, and Donald; his sisters Irene Rose and Marie Jorgenson; and by one grand-daughter Amy (Smith) Romero.
Surviving are his children Judith (Albert) Brooks of Mahomet, Illinois, James (Leslie) Rose of Champaign, Illinois, Thomas Rose of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Marjorie (Gary) Smith of Elizabeth, Colorado. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Michelle (Matthew) Seliskar of Evergreen, Colorado; Allen (Lisa) Brooks of Downers Grove, Illinois; Bryan (Rijka) Brooks of Austin, Texas; Hector (Elizabeth) Lareau of Moline, Illinois; Ronald (Jennifer) Rose of Battlecreek, Michigan; Kelly (Rob) Last of Golden, Colorado and Kristen Smith of Norfolk, Virginia. Fifteen great-grandchildren also survive as well as three sisters Ann Kuta of Castro Valley, California, Rita Clugh of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Marge (Lester) Hansen of Dwight and one brother, Jerry Rose of Dwight.
Leo retired from Mars Candy Company in Chicago as a maintenance welder. He and his wife Jeanette moved to Colorado shortly after his retirement, living for many years in Littleton.
He enjoyed golfing, vegetable gardening, going to estate sales and flea markets, riding his bicycle, and helping many friends and neighbors with home maintenance and repairs.
